As the weather grows colder, there is nothing more satisfying than curling up with a great book. I had the good fortune of reading two awesome books in October!
Completed October Books
Troubled Blood (Cormoran Strike, #5) by Robert Galbraith
TROUBLED BLOOD is my favorite Cormoran Strike novel yet! As a longtime fan of the Cormoran Strike series, this novel did not disappoint. Rowling is a master at characterization and complex plots, and I hope she continues to write Strike novels for years to come.
I recommend this series to anyone who enjoys book-hangovers because if you're anything like me a book-hangover is probably what you're going to get!
Also, TROUBLED BLOOD is almost 1,000 pages long. ALMOST 1,000 PAGES! Therefore, I'm making the executive decision that this book counts as 3 books. Therefore, in my mind, I actually read 4 books in October instead of 2. (Yay, pretend math!)
Firefight (The Reckoners, #2) by Brandon Sanderson
Brandon Sanderson, the master of world-building, has done it again. He is so incredibly creative. Just like STEELHEART (the first book in The Reckoners series), FIREFIGHT is super fun! It is essentially a comic book that morphed into a novel. One of my favorite things about the series is that the books are super cheesy, but in a very refreshing and adorable way. Here's one of my favorite excerpts:
The sun sank down like a giant golden pat of butter melting onto the corn of New Jersey. Or…wait. That abandoned city was kind of more like spinach than corn. So the sun sank down into the spinach of Jersey.
The book isn't all action and humor, although that is a big part of it. It is also heartfelt and serious at times. I recommend the series to anyone who loves excellent world-building and cheesy similes and metaphors!
I hope you all read some great books in October as well. Maybe next year I'll branch out and read some horror novels... 😬 It might take me until next October to work up the courage though.
Happy Reading,
Sam
